I, Sheriff Kyle Matthew Moore, have been a career law enforcement officer. I began my career in 1989 when I enlisted into the United States Army as a Military Policeman, where I served in various duty positions. Ft. Jackson, SC as a patrol MP, Muenster Germany as a security officer at a physical security site, Ft. Devens, MA again as a patrol MP and assigned as the post Game Warden as well as the Special Reaction Team assistant team leader. I was then assigned to Ft. Myer, VA as a member of the 3rd U.S. Infantry “The Old Guard” as a member of the first Presidential Military Police Honor Guard platoon. After ending my active-duty commitment, I then enlisted into the U.S. Army Reserves and worked my way through the enlisted ranks until I retired in 2017 as a Master Sergeant.
While in the Army, I was able to attend many leadership schools and serve in a plethora of assignments throughout the world. I attended Airborne, Air Assault, SRT, Equal Opportunity, instructor courses, and many different types of investigations classes. I deployed to Iraq in 2005 as a Military Transition Team Leader, where I was responsible for the training of an Iraqi Infantry Battalion in basic combat operations.
In 1996 I was chosen to attend the Virginia State Police academy as a Trooper trainee. I graduated and was re-assigned to Alleghany County, where I served the citizens of Alleghany County from 1996 until 2007 as a Trooper, I was then promoted to the rank of Sergeant within the same duty post and remained there until my retirement in January 2023.
While a member of the VSP I served in numerous different roles. I served as a General Instructor, Driving Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, ASP instructor, Taser instructor, less than lethal weapons instructor, Crime Prevention Officer, Field Training Officer. I served on the Division VI tactical and was responsible for serving numerous high risk search warrants as well as arresting many fugitives from justice. I served as a statewide coordinator for the tactical field force (riot platoon) and participated in several violent protests across the Commonwealth of Virginia to include the Charlottesville Riots. I was also the Western Region Honor Guard coordinator, performing many line of duty as well as retiree funeral assignments.
On November 7, 2023 I was elected to the office of Sheriff for Alleghany County. I ran my campaign on Accountability, Integrity and Availability. I also ran on positive change and the citizens of Alleghany County chose this change. I vow to make Alleghany County a safer place to live, work and worship. Alleghany County is a beautiful place to visit as well as live and raise a family.
I enjoy spending time with my family (especially my grandchildren), going to church and being able to spend time outdoors with my dogs. I love helping people and assisting those in need.
I want to thank God and the citizens of Alleghany County for allowing me to enjoy the greatest job I have ever had.
