Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office and Regional Jail personnel participated in our first community cleanup day along with several citizens from the community. We began our day at 4:30 pm on Rt. 159 and divided up into teams and covered the area between Rt. 600 and Escatawba farm. Plastic and glass bottles, plastic containers, food wrappers and bags are among the many items that were picked up. A total of 50 bags of trash were picked up and taken to the landfill by VDOT. This should serve as a reminder to all citizens to not throw trash on the side of the road.
